The headland on the northeastern point of North Stradbroke Island known as Point Lookout is probably the most popular destination for visitors to Straddie. From the ferry port in Dunwich the path through East Coast Road branches in two directions at approximately 10km in. The path to the right continuing down East Coast Road leads to Point Lookout. At the entrance to Point Lookout is the Adder Rock camping ground, sheltered by bushland behind a scenic cove. Next to the campground is the Adder Rock beach which is accessible from the grounds by 4WD. Further into Point Lookout is the town centre with eateries and a pub lining the road as well as the largest range of accommodation available on the island including motels, bed and breakfasts, resorts, dorms and cabins. Surrounding the headland are a group of pristine beaches with the most popular being Home Beach and Cylinder Beach, the latter of which is patrolled and particularly crowded during weekends. Visitors preferring more secluded beaches can venture to Deadman's Beach and Frenchman's Beach between North Gorge and Cylinder. The headland itself provides some terrific views and scenic walking tracks, particular around North Gorge to Main Beach. Marine life such as turtles, dolphins and whales can sometimes be spotted from here.
