Kiama

Kiama is a small but attractive coastal resort which lies on the South Coast of New South Wales approximately
Kiama
120km south of Sydney. The town's name itself is derived from an aboriginal word which translates to "Place where the sea emits noise" in reference to its famous blowhole.

Things to See and Do

Kiama's beaches are world renowned with a large variety of surfing conditions to please the most avid of surfers. Surf competitions are also held here annually.

The main tourist attraction, however, is the famous Kiama Blowhole. Depending on the sea conditions, the blowhole can potentially spray water up to 25 metres (or 82 feet) in the air, leaving many amazed bystanders drenched but impressed.

Saddleback Mountain lies 7km south of Kiama and rises to about 600 metres above sea level. A lookout at the top provides spectacular views of the coast.

The Minnamurra Rainforest Park is located about 14km inland from Kiama and visitors can talk a walk through the rainforest or to the Minnamurra falls.

Other attractions in Kiama include the Pilot's Cottage Museum next to the visitors centre, the strip of craft shops and restaurants at the Terrace and the old village of Jamberoo on the way to Minnamurra.

Getting to Kiama

Buses can be booked to stop in Kiama outside the Leagues Club on Terralong St. Trains also travel between the town to Wollongong, Sydney, Gerringong and Bomaderry. To drive to Kiama from Sydney, travel along the Princes Highway and take the exit to Kiama.
