The Golden Dragon Museum of Bendigo has plenty to offer anyone interested in the city's unique Chinese culture and history since the early gold rush days. Made famous for its amazing Chinese dragons such as Loong, the world's oldest Imperial dragon, this museum offers much more than just displays and exhibits. Aside from the actual museum, there's a library where historical records and newspaper articles are archived, chronicling the immigration and history of the Chinese people in Australia. Outside the main buildings are the beautiful and peaceful Yi Yuan Gardens which are based on Beijing's Imperial palace as well as the Kuan Yin Temple. The Golden Dragon Museum also offers a hotel for travelers who wish to stay in the area for more than a day as well as a dining area where you can sit back and enjoy a light lunch in between dragon spotting. The fun doesn't stop with the dragons and gardens. You can enrol in classes for various Chinese handicrafts, calligraphy and languages or take part in guided tours of the museum.
