Dubbo
The regional town of Dubbo lies in the centre of New South Wales within reach of the eastern interior
as well as the seaboard of Australia. Over half a million people visit annually for the local food, shopping, accommodation and attractions. Besides being a tourist destination, Dubbo is also a popular stopover point for travelers making the trip between Brisbane and Melbourne with many staying a day or two to explore the town. Dubbo's main attraction is its famous Western Plains Zoo which boasts over a thousand animals of more than a hundred species with origins from all over the world. Other places of interest include the Dubbo Regional Gallery, the Dubbo Observatory, the Old Dubbo Goal which serves as a museum filled with interesting animatronic characters as well as the various wineries and vintage buildings around town. Available activities in Dubbo include swimming at the Dubbo Aquatic Leisure Centre, birdwatching, golf at the Dubbo Golf Club, tenpin bowling and minigolf.
Getting to Dubbo
Driving to Dubbo takes approximately five hours from Sydney and ten hours from Brisbane or Melbourne. Regular flights are scheduled from Sydney and other regional centres while rail and coach services are also available.
