Convent Gallery in Daylesford and Hepburn Springs

Convent Gallery

The Convent Gallery houses artwork by over 100 local, national and international artists covering a variety of media and styles.

Described as possibly the most beautiful gallery in Australia, this 19th century mansion sits on the crest of the Wombat Hill Botanical Gardens overlooking Daylesford, with expansive views of the countryside and township below.

Originally built in the gold rush era of the 1860s as a private residence for the gold commissioner, The Convent was later bought by the Catholic Church and converted into a convent and boarding school for girls.

After falling into disrepair and closing in 1973, prize-winning artist and ceramicist Tina Banitska bought the property in 1988 in an effort to promote and expose beautifule works of arts to the public.

The multi-award winning gallery has seven exhibition spaces featuring a truly diverse range of art with new artwork showcased every eight weeks.

The Convent Gallery is split over three levels that accommodate retail areas, a Mediterranean restaurant, relaxing altar bar and lounge, restored chapel, penthouse apartment, and two stunning glass-fronted function spaces, all set within six acres of gardens blossoming in the rich volcanic soil of the Victorian Spa Country region.
