Only a 10-minute walk west of Launceston's city centre is the spectacular Cataract Gorge.

The South Esk River flows through vertical cliffs while a wildlife reserve occupies the areas around the gorge.

Walking tracks run from Kings Bridge up to First Basin where a swimming pool is located next to peaceful picnic grounds where colourful peacocks roam.

The trails continue up to the Cataract and Eagle Eyrie lookouts as well as further up the gorge to Second Basin and Duck Reach.

Crossing over the waters of First Basin is a suspension bridge and a chairlift.

Opening Hours
